How Shatter Me actually reads
First-person, strikethrough thoughts, a body no one can hold. The plot is a regime pulling a weapon out of a cell. The feeling is loneliness with a pulse. Adam is the first safe contact. Warner is the colder gravity you notice too early. That split is the engine of the series — which is why you do not skip book 1.
This is 2011 YA dystopia with a 2020s BookTok afterlife. It sits with Hunger Games and Divergent on the cage-and-regime rail, not with Fourth Wing on the adult-romantasy rail. Romance is the pulse. The Reestablishment is the plot.
